Harris Cup Match - Match Report

Invictus V Falconwood

This was an enthralling game that had numerous twists and turns. It was a captivating fixture in which the commitment and desire shown by our students was unquestionable. The level of mental fortitude and resilience shown by the boys was evident throughout the game.

Harris Falconwood started the game brightly and their dominant start was rewarded with 3 quick fire goals in the first 25 minutes of the fixture. However, after going 3-0 down and making some tactical changes Harris Invictus bravely fought back and got back to 3-2 at half-time.

We began the second-half in the same vein, but unfortunately fell behind against the run of play to leave us trailing 4-2. Once again our commitment and desire were not to be questioned and we levelled the game to 4-4 with two goals in the next 15 minutes. We fell behind once again during another dominant spell from the other team, leaving us 5-4 behind. Harris Invictus refused to be beaten and continued to attack intently hoping to force an equaliser; our persistence paid dividends in stoppage time as we scored a powerfully hit shot from 25 yards that gave the keeper no chance and brought us back to level terms. The match ended 5-5 in regulated time, both coaches subsequently agreed to go directly to penalties.

The penalty shoot-out was a suspense driven experience, with both teams scoring their first four allocated penalties. Harris Falconwood missed their fifth spot kick which gave Harris Invictus the opportunity to win the cup tie. Unfortunately we missed the spot kick to leave the penalty shoot-out in a sudden death scenario. Both teams subsequently missed their next two spot kicks, before Harris Falconwood scored their eighth penalty leaving Harris Invictus with the desirable task of having to score their next penalty kick to remain in the tie. Sadly we missed this penalty and Harris Falconwood won the cup tie 6-5 on penalties.

All the Harris Invictus students conducted themselves in a commendable fashion and their commitment, desire and work ethic were exceptional.
