Year 7 'Go Ape' in Battersea Park

By Grace Zhang and Priya Thakor, Year 7.

This summer, Year 7 went on an amazing trip to ‘Go Ape’, an outdoor adventure centre in Battersea Park that includes tree climbing, team building and zip wires!

The trip was a way of having more opportunities to work together with our friends as well as a celebratory reward for our achievements in our first year of secondary school.

Students from X1, X3, Y1 and Y3 went on Monday whilst the rest went out on a Friday. This was done deliberately to help us meet new people that were outside of our normal classes.

This trip was organised by Ms. Davis, an English teacher who is also in charge of making sure that children who arrive in Year 6 feel welcome in our school. She and the other teachers did an amazing job organising this trip and making everyone smile – it certainly made our day!

When we got to the park we completed “gorilla games” and a “tree top adventure course”. Gorilla games were team building exercises on the ground where students use creative thinking to overcome challenges with their teammates. It is also used to help our communication skills and to help us think outside of the box.

The tree top adventure was an outdoor experience in the trees that tests your limits at dizzying heights. Make sure you tread carefully along the wobbly bridges! This not only tests our physical strength but our mental strength too as we whiz through on ziplines from different heights.

Janelle, a student from year 7 gave us some views on the trip. “I really enjoyed the Gorilla games since we got to socialise with people we wouldn’t usually talk to. But the main problem that I found was the trip was too short!”
