Year 8 Inspired by STEM Day at Emirates Stadium
Students from Invictus attended the 7th annual YFYA STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths) Event at the Emirates Stadium recently. The event welcomed 1,000 students from across the country, 24 supporting organisations and over 350 volunteers who made sure the day was one to remember.
Twenty of our Year 8 students were invited to take part in a stimulating range of STEM activities, education and exposure to STEM careers, as well as meet professionals from some of the world’s leading STEM companies and organisations.
The students took part in various sessions which enabled them to speak directly to company representatives about further education, apprenticeships, internships, graduate schemes and career opportunities - and come up with ideas such as work experience which could raise awareness of careers in STEM at Invictus.
The first part of the event was in a lounge, where each school had the opportunity to witness a journey of inspiration, achievement and success in the lives of people in the Royal Air Force, Royal Navy and the British Army. They had the opportunity to speak to a lot of staff directly and get insights on how to navigate their careers and discover what experiences and skills are needed to stand out as a future applicant.
The second part of the event allowed the students to speak to representatives from companies including ITV, EY (Ernest & Young), Adobe, TFL, NatWest, RBS, National Grid and PG Tips.
The students were extremely happy with how the day went and the opportunity to speak to a number of diverse and influential people. Knowing that there are so many different career paths in STEM helps them think through what GSCEs they will choose for Year 9.
It was a great achievement and a great day to be remembered.
