National Poetry Day at Harris Invictus
We celebrated National Poetry Day in Harris Invictus on 12th & 13th October. We were lucky enough to invite Anthony Wojcik to celebrate National Poetry Day with us. He is a writer & facilitator and was a joint champion of the Roundhouse Poetry Slam 2013. He has performed at many events around the UK, including TEDx East End 2015 and festivals, such as Glastonbury, Latitude and Bestival, as well as internationally at Sofia Poetics 2015.
His debut stage show ‘How to Keep Time’ received critical acclaim at Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2018. âHe kicked off our assembly with this year’s poetry theme ‘choice’. He steals our hearts with his mesmerizing performances, integrating drum into poetry, it was brilliant and inspired our students.
On Day two of National Poetry Day, we had workshops, with students enjoying poetry through the activities inspired by the assembly performance. Students enjoyed the creative process of writing, coming up with their own ideas. It was amazing to see the positive impact this assembly had and how inspired our KS3/4 students have been. I am really proud of our students.
Thanks to all the teachers for supporting this event.
