Maths
At Harris Invictus Academy, our intent is to provide an experience of Mathematics based on the premise that ‘We can all do maths!’
We study Mathematics as it is a creative and highly interconnected discipline that has been developed over centuries, providing the solution to some of history’s most intriguing problems. We ensure that pupils gain the skills required to succeed inside and outside the classroom by developing their problem-solving skills and financial literacy.
All Invictus students can achieve in mathematics through teaching that develops a secure and deep understanding of mathematical concepts through manageable steps. Pupils will gain an appreciation of number and number operations, which will enable them to perform mental calculations and written procedures fluently and accurately to be successful in mathematics, and in their lives.
An Invictus student will experience the beauty, power and enjoyment of mathematics and develop a sense of curiosity about the subject with a clear understanding. This means that the mathematics curriculum has been designed in a vertical fashion, with plenty of opportunities for pupils to not only build cumulatively on the knowledge that they acquire, but that they also apply their knowledge and skills to various problems. The purpose of this is to allow pupils to appreciate that no single mathematical concept exists in isolation, but that the discipline is an integrated whole.
